Another consortium formed to “enhance global IT security”…
Is this a reaction to the monkeynet project? You have to wonder.
We had SAFECode announced last year and now comes ICASI, (Industry Consortium for Advancement of Security on the Internet). Release:

How they’re going to; “enhance global IT security by proactively driving excellence and innovation in security response” is something I think we all look forward to hearing more about.
I was just thinking to myself the other day, we’re about due for another consortium!

The difference is that the monkeynet project seems to be founded upon some substance and real projects.
Similarities lie in both organisations being backed by shady characters.

Monkey’s are cute and seem to have a lot more substance than some in the industry Mr Chief Security Evangelist and the like.

This all is PR and nothing else. As a big company, you need to show ‘progress’ to ensure that confidence in the company remains for shareholders, albeit, it is misguided and based upon deliver of product that does nothing more than ensure its own self-existence by way of continual updates, upgrades and patches. It is all founded on false principles that we all are happy to suck in believing that we have no alternatives and that is BS!

Thanks for pulling this up. Press will report this and then forget about it but you seem to chase this up. And, what is found, nothing! Lets see how this one goes in 6 months! Lets bet nothing! Seriously, what are they going to do? Nothing!

@Mandy, I wonder if US based “evangelists” know that most of us here laugh at that title. I wonder if it is used in Europe and elsewhere?

Hey guys,
don’t knock the evengelists ! Not too much, anyway.
There’s always a place in the world for these people that stand on soap boxes, loudly proclaiming their own self-importance. Whether its tv-evangelists or tech-evangelists, they all seem to share the overly inflated self-importance gene.
Lets be honest. Self-proclaimed “evangelists” give the cynics of the world, like me, a rich source of laughing material.
And the world needs laughter.
