Crazy 7 days…just wondering if I just noticed it or whether it’s just normal….

It’s a full moon as I post this….kind of feels fitting. Sometimes people criticise me when I post off-topic stuff here….Funny how the hits to Beast or Buddha seem to multiply at times when I’m not talking IT security. I wonder sometimes whether I should just head down the path of passing opinions on the funny things in life I run into instead and become a Web 2.0 dude talking it. That stuff seems to interest people in our industry more at times than a post on the latest rant about someone doing something in our industry, which outside of our industry, no one seems to give a rats about anyway. Surprising that…. (he laughs).

Well aside from Securus Global being flat chat and week after week proving why we are the best here at what we do, we also attract the “distractions” because of it. Hey, okay, Beast or Buddha doesn’t help and my posts do inspire opinions - good and bad and overall attract interesting things to us. So yeah, the last 7 days were interesting. Moreso than any other? Probably not. Maybe my mood just was such that I paid more attention too and noticed some of the weird, bad, nuts stuff more. Just rambling about some things outside of the real work:

Big Galoot proved that you can catch fish without any bait whatsoever on your hook. Rex Hunt would have loved this stuff over at Joanna’s blog. I think there may have been some attraction there also towards the end. If Big Galoot is right, having a “real man” post makes a difference and thus J’s reaction. I could sense it! :-)

A client was quoted supposedly 1.4M for an ISMS / 27001 scoping exercise (without the real work on top of it…that is extra….though do these projects ever end?). Now only a Big 4 can get away with that and actually get someone to pay for it! I did mention on Twitter that I would have loved to have thrown a donut at the fat partner and bitch slapped him just as he was about to catch it if I was at the meeting….but hey, if they can do it and someone is stupid enough to pay for it, I suppose…..good luck to you! Maybe I need to get back into that Big 4 business. (Oh no he shudders!)

Okay, I can mention them now. WebSafe Shield emails QSAs. I assume all QSAs got the email asking them about being a partner with them. Surely these dudes would do their homework….gees, please don’t play us for fools. (Some QSAs….yeah….they’ll take it) but reading Beast or Buddha, you’d know my thoughts on this BS. Anyway, I did send a nice response about “false and mis-leading advertising” and surprise surprise…..haven’t heard back since. Another organisation to stay away from. They also need to get someone like Securus Global to really test their own website. Nuff said on that point. :-)

Oh yeah, almost forgot. My brain exploded but from what I gather, CERN fixed it up. How good was that timing? No one even noticed.

Talking to about half a dozen IT Security Managers and all still facing the same BS as usual and all likely candidates for doing what an old mate did that inspired the first ever post in Beast or Buddha. Should still be in the archives. A couple of years on and little has changed sometimes.

Lastly….being screwed big time on an agreement. Again, I learn my lesson….like I do every couple of months….get it all in writing….don’t trust anyone…I never learn and believe a handshake is all I need! Sadly, I still have this belief in the good in people and while there are good people, you only remember at the time of your anger, all the bad ones that have no morals, ethics, professionalism and just no plain decency in them. Generally, as I mentioned in Twitter today, people with little substance and being able to hide behind the protection of a large corporate is their way to their own importance in an otherwise self-created dreary existence.

Oh….some good things….Fatemah Beydoun of SG was elected Vice Chair to AISA! Go FB!

Ahh….aside from that…in the real world, my god daughter had her first holy communion…gees, I was worried when the priest tapped me on the shoulder….thought he’d had a message to get me the hell out of the church but he just asked me to sit down…phew…. God son has his birthday this week the little legend, and heading up to sunny Queensland to kickstart the business up there on Monday. Probably be posting before then but already up there in spirit. Bring on the sun!

  1. That’s certainly an interesting 7 days around the traps! :) Here’s hoping your coming week goes a little smoother :)

    Peace,
