Cloud Computing – kill it NOW!!!
This terminology, acronym or whatever you want to call it, is nothing more than a vendor marketing tactic from the 90’s. It is BS and deserves no more from me now. It’s been done here in this post:
Cloud Computing is for Wankers
Our “industry” should be killing it (again)
– with clients and within ourselves. It is taking us backwards! Arghh!!!

Yeah, I know it’s too late but at least I can be quoted with one final shot at it.
Lets all be dumb.

Cloud Computing suffers from Simplexity http://tr.im/gD7Q and Leaky Abstractions http://tr.im/gD7N … Q.E.D.
Vint Cerf [Google] speaks of possible ‘inter-cloud’ interoperability as per early internets. http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/vint_cerf_despite_its_age_the.php?mtcCampaign=2765
Chuck [EMC] speaks of more interesting virtualisation of endpoints/edge, *and* subsumed in to network. http://chucksblog.emc.com/chucks_blog/2009/02/the-coming-architectural-wars.html
Chuck has a pop @ clouds again too. He’s one person who gets it, but plays on the buzzword a heck of a lot! I spoke to him late last year about private/public interoperablity and ‘walled gardens’.. was fun! Mate in boardroom also brought up porn as driving storage/bw/compression/codecs which was funny as the rest of the, ohhhh so proper attendees, didn’t know whether to laugh or cry… anyways: http://chucksblog.emc.com/chucks_blog/2009/02/enterprise-cloud-wars.html
Note: it’s fun using Odiogo on Chuck’s page to listen to blogs/rss feeds… I have started to use it myself for podcasts in the car

Just ignore it. It’ just like fools that use the term Evangelist, overly promote what papers they are submitting at what conference and fake an accent to sound more intriguing and more sophisticated – best to pat them on the head and keep on fighting the good fight – it means nothing in the long run.

It’s interesting to read the various articles on “Cloud Computing”.
It’s still evident that there’s hardly consensus to what its full scope and meaning is. Kind of superfluous waste of energies given most of the tech exists now in a more accurate description of what it is and newer techs predicted and/or coming through are based on existing technologies that as mentioned, already have a name that describes it well.
Assuming that it makes people feel better not knowing how they get something as long as they get it. (Just me maybe…:-))….lets at least work to get an understanding on where the value is, who the target markets….gees, didn’t we do this before it was all in the cloud?!?!

I thought SaaS and other Cloud elements were actually well focused for smaller business? WT?
Here are a few linked articles also from MIS. Interesting for no other reason than how the stories are “linked” under some pretty loose connections for the sake of a “Cloud Computing” story:

Must admit I squinted hard to get some it and probably still didn’t. These articles aren’t unique. They are everywhere.
We’ve created a monster [with the Cloud] and it doesn’t have a head at the moment.

@Anonymous,
your blasphemous words strike at very the hearts of those of us who make our living, speaking around the globe at the world’s security conferences, staying in flashy hotels, eating caviar canapes, drinking free beer, whilst spreading the righteous messages of IT Security evangelism.
I have this to say to non-believers;
“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.”
Sinners – I shall see thee all at AusCert !

I picture you Big Galoot as a big, thickset person who has always looked down upon smaller and more intelligent people than you. Your name says it all. Big must dominate over smaller. But you seem insecure about the smarter people in this industry we work in. An Evangelist is someone who is passionate to spread the word and make our world a better place. At AusCert, while I will be on the other side of the world, I hope 10 geeks gang up on you and belt you silly with Beast or Buddha t-shirts! They may run away after it but a points victory is still a victory!
1-0 to the Evangelists! Bring it on!

The usage of the phrase “cloud computing” results in me wanting to punch someone!

customer – you got cloud?

customer – oh, good time for another bottle of red?
matt overhears conversations swells into the green incredible hulk and trashes the place… HULK NO LIKEY CLOUD AARRRRGGH!!!!
